On my article with the title 2011 Battle: iPhone Vs Android Vs BlackBerry Vs Symbian Vs Windows Phone 7, I said that Symbian Operating system is kinda old and boring, well you can agree and disagree about that. However, on 1st March, my android phone is missing and before I get a new phone, I have to use my unused phone, which is Nokia E61i running on S60 3rd edition. During the use of my old phone, I notice three things that I love about Symbian OS.
First, the Symbian phone battery performance is good. Actually, it’s because the cell phone is only using 220 MHz processor, but still, I love it because I don’t have to recharge my phone everyday even if I use it to browse internet a lot. It seems that Nokia Symbian phone is tend to use not so powerful processor, even the brand new Nokia E7 only use 680 MHz Processor, while most of Android phone at the same price range already using at least 1 GHz processor. Using lower clock rate processor will have impact on performance but on the other hand, it will have better battery efficiency.
Second, the build quality and the camera. Most of Symbian phone is made by Nokia and SonyEricsson. Even though not all, but most of the phone is made by good quality material and also provided with decent quality camera, especially for Nokia phone that using Carl Zeiss Optics.
Three, this is especially for Symbian^3 OS. The feature that I like from this operating system is USB on the go. With this feature we can read USB flash disk using our phone.
The battery performance, the camera quality and USB on the go feature are quite important to me, but still I have to say good bye to Symbian because there are some applications and feature that I need that unavailable in Symbian device.
