Especially for those who are not use unlimited data plan. Some people even don’t have the idea why this could happen while others know that this is happen because the Android mobile phone is always connected to the Internet but do not know how to disable internet android.
To turn off internet android / data services, is actually quite easy, but many people, especially new users do not know how to do it. In this tutorial we will teach you how to turn off internet connection on Android phone, but before we continue, will inform you why the Android phone is always connected to the internet and the side effects when we to turn it off.
Android phone is always connected to the internet to synchronize data, either with Google’s servers, or with other Android application server. If you turn off internet android, the phone won’t be able synchronize data in real time or automatically, hence you will not receive notification if there are any new information from any application that requires internet connection. For example you will not receive any new mail notification, instant messages from social services like Facebook, Yahoo Messenger, Twitter, etc., and also you won’t get information if there are updates of the application that you downloaded from the Android Market.
However, you will still be able to synchronize manually at the time you determined yourself. So, if you don’t need real time notification, then you may disable internet android. Here are several ways you can take to turn it off.
Method Number One:
In some types of mobile phones you can turn off internet connection by pressing and hold the power button (the on/ off button) and then it will show the option to turn off internet connection (disable data connection). But not all types of mobile phones have this feature
Method Number Two to Turn Off Internet Connection Android:
You can turn off internet connection through the settings:
- Press HOME button
- Press MENU button
- Choose Settings
- Wireless & Networks (Wireless Networking)
- Choose Mobile Networks
- On the “use packed data” (some phone name it “data enabled”), do not give check mark or leave it blank.
However, if you can’t find this option on your Android phones, then you may use other methods.
Method Number Three: Create a Fake APN
to be able to block internet Android, it can also be done by making fake APN (Access Point Name) or a wrong internet settings. Here’s how to do it:
- Press the HOME button
- Press the MENU button
- Select Settings
- Select Wireless & Networks (Wireless Networking)
- Select Mobile Networks
- Select the Access Point Names (APN)
- After entering the APN menu, press the MENU button and select New APN
- Enter wrong APN data, for example: Name: fake apn, APN: apnoff, the other setting does not need to be filled
- When finished, press the MENU button and select Save
- Select the new “Fake APN” by touching the green circle on the right side of the fake apn Name.
However, sometimes this may not always succeed and a little inconvenient. In some of network provider, user still be able to connect to internet even when they use fake APN. To determine whether your Android internet connection is still active or not, when a fake APN is enabled, try browsing the internet (with wifi off), if you still can do browsing internet, this means you can’t applied this way. The advantage of using this method is you can still receive incoming MMS.
How to Turn off Internet Android, Method Number Four:
We think this last method is the easiest try and we hope it works for you. Here’s how to do it:
Go to the Android Market and then type: “APN on off” in the search field. It will show some result as follows:
Select the application you like, as this example we choose the APN on-off widget made by Pedro Maicas.
Once the application is installed, to activate it, you need to go to the main screen or home screen by pressing the HOME button. Makes sure there is still empty space to put widget. After that, touch and hold the screen until it show options menu > select Widgets > find “APN On-Off” widget.
Once you select APN On-Off widget, you will find widget with the picture of arrow up and down with a green background that indicate Android internet connection is still active. To disable the Internet connection, you simply touch on the widget APN On Off.
After being touched, the widget will change its background color to red which means APN off or mobile data internet can’t be used. Actually this method is like a shortcut for method number two.
The indicator that you already success disable internet connection is you won’t find letter G / E / 3G / H on the left of the signal strength indicator. Note: G = GPRS, E = EDGE, 3G = 3G connectivity, H = HSPA.
To enable internet Android again, you just simply touch the APN On Off widget again. If you want to try to use other APN On Off widget or application, we recommend you to enable internet Android first then uninstall previous APN On Off widget. After that you can try to download other APN On Off widget.
